As the Mayan calendar finishes and we approach December 21 many people may be wondering what the future holds for us as we move into a brand new year and time in January 2013.

My thoughts are that we are entering a time of growth and spiritual awareness; we are becoming more compassionate as research over the last few years is proving. But it is time to be more compassionate with ourselves, especially at this time of year. It is a time when we put extra pressure on ourselves to create a ‘perfect Christmas’ and we beat ourselves up when we don’t meet our own exacting standards.

I had a call recently from a lady who suffers from chronic pain and who wanted to be able to ‘do Christmas’ for everybody’ as it was her turn, this was proving overwhelming, and with the cold snap and added stress her pain was becoming worse. I advised her to ‘be kind to herself’ and share her concerns, delegate the essential jobs and let go of those that don’t need to be done.

Christmas is a time of coming together and sharing, supporting each other and letting people know we care- we can do this by just being together. Life is not perfect and if we accept this and acknowledge what we are able to do and what we love with gratitude and celebrate this then we are much more able to be self-accepting- this self-compassion, and compassion for others helps release oxytocin into our system and endorphins which boost the immune system and relive pain naturally- just what we need in the winter months!

New groups are springing up to draw us closer together in our sacred human nature as Jack Kornfield says “Our deepest nature is love”.

Love is the best message to share this Christmas – be it through giving a helping hand to those around us or just making contact with old friends, relatives we rarely see, and making new friends.

So, I have put together this bumper issue in the hope that there is something here to inspire and uplift everyone for this Christmas and into the New Year 2013 there will be web links throughout to explore and be inspired by. But for those of you short on time I am putting a few here to go right into

I had the good fortune to attend an intensive course in mindful self-compassion training this summer with two of the most inspiring people I have ever met.

Here are the links to their websites below which include a lot of valuable tips and information, and some lovely meditations to download or listen to for free!

And if you go on to my website to you can also watch a video about their work.
