Time to replenish! Join me for some uplifting and nurturing workshops and courses from the comfort of your own home!
Hello and welcome to my Autumn newsletter. I write this as we head through the Autumn months and on towards 2020 drawing to a close as we enter the winter months.
I feel that now is an important opportunity to take stock-emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally, and relationally at this time of change and uncertainty.
Ove the Spring and Summer months I have moved everything to my online platforms and have learnt a great deal. I have also learnt that our bodies are not machines and whilst I pushed ahead to move with the times and offer what I could, I found myself having to listen to my body and slow down a bit-which I felt was strange as life did feel as if everything was on hold.
However, there was much work to be done and new and exciting ventures and adventures to experience, so I took some time to rest and recuperate. I am now really looking forward to sharing my Autumn online offerings with you and my exciting news!
Adapting to the seasons and everyday life – a fresh perspective for the months ahead
As we approach the next seasons of Autumn and winter, it is helpful to think of how nature adapts and changes to survive and give colour all year long from winter pansies to snowdrops and daffodils in the Spring, and the beautiful blossoms, and then into summer and the full bloom of the beautiful flowers such as Roses. Have you noticed when you pay attention – Something is always blooming?
As human beings there is cause for great hope, despite the current pandemic. The evolutionary psychologist and author Professor Paul Gilbert OBE recently spoke at an online conference and suggested that we can be hopeful because throughout history and our own evolution we have adapted and changed to survive external threats such as the great plague, the Spanish flu and our environments such as floods.
Nothing has wiped us out as a species-we have an evolutionary adaptive that supports flexibility and resilience. You only have to look back over the past few months to see how we collectively came together to support each other and the NHS, and how we have all got used to new technology with online platform such as zoom helping us keep connected.
Compassion, Jack Kornfield says, is our deepest nature, and it is our greatest survival asset – we are social beings and hard wired to not only problem solve through the design of our brain but also to help each other-this is how we survive and thrive as a species.
We might not be able to predict or change the future and feel some fear and even anxiety from uncertainty, but we can adapt to that challenge and choose an attitude of hope.
Try this – if you get up in the morning and often feel the weight of the day ahead and some anxiety , take a moment to interrupt and change your thought pattern by making a conscious (mindful) effort to get up gently to greet the day: Reflect on all you are thankful for and then tell yourself that something good will happen for you during the course of the day-it inevitably will what we seek we find.
As a favourite author of mine Joyce Meyer says “ Hope is the happy and confident anticipation of good….Regardless of who you are or what condition your life is in…When you live in the garden of hope something is always blooming”
